What is necessary to change a person
is to change his awareness of himself.
~Abraham Maslow~

American psychologist, Abraham Maslow, also known as the Father of Modern Management Psychology, stressed the importance of focusing on the positive qualities in people.  Maslow believed that every person has a strong desire to realize his or her full potential and come to a state of ‘self-actualization.’

As a psychotherapist, I’ve discovered a common thread among clients - that discovering the truth about one’s self brings empowerment.  Also, that this process of ‘self-discovery’ is a necessary component in achieving personal wholeness and balance in life.  Regardless of socio-economic status, everyone wanted to find their purpose in life and have the opportunity to tap into their hidden potential.

Psychotherapy can provide that opportunity for growth and self-discovery in the context of a safe, supportive, and therapeutic relationship.  Together, the therapist and client set goals to overcome obstacles that may be preventing them from reaching their personal achievements.  Clients are challenged to change in their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors so that goals can be reached that allow you to take control of your life and respond to challenging situations with healthy coping skills.

Theoretically, I most often think in terms of systems and use a family therapy model for treatment.  What that means is that we may collaboratively identify how your family of origin impacts or has impacted your feelings and behaviors.  I also utilize elements of cognitive-behavioral therapy to help clients identify any ‘irrational’ beliefs that may be contributing to their dis-regulation.

I am clinically trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and an active member of EMDR International Association.  EMDR is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma, PTSD, depression and anxiety. EMDR is a set of standardized protocols that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches. To date, EMDR therapy has helped millions of people of all ages relieve many types of psychological stress.

Using these approaches, we will look at your thought patterns, feelings, and actions, and how they affect your daily life.  My approach is holistic and goal-oriented.  We will identify goals you want to meet and then work together to develop the best strategies for you to achieve those goals.

While I am a professionally trained counselor and licensed through the State of Florida as a Mental Health Therapist, I find that many people benefit by applying their faith in God when facing difficult times in life.   I am a Christian by faith and offer faith-based counseling services if requested by the client.  I conduct all counseling sessions in English or with a translator for whom you arrange and pay.  I do not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or physical disability.  If significant differences, such as in culture or belief system exist between us, I will work to understand those differences.

Areas of specialty include:  Anxiety, Depression, Trauma, PTSD, Relationship Issues, Faith-Based Counseling, Mindfulness, Self-Awareness, and Personal Growth Coaching.
